Should You Be Concerned With Child Obesity?
By Jeff | November 20, 2010
Should you really be concerned with child obesity? Do you have or know an obese child or their family? Check out this staggering statistic.
The obesity rate in American children ages 6-11 years in 1980 was 6.5%. That rate in 2008 tripled to 19.6%! For children between the ages of 12 and 19 the rate jumped from 5% to 18.1% in that same 28-year time frame.
Ouch! Is that stat for real? Unfortunately, yes. So what in the world can we do about this?
First we need to educate ourselves about everything involved from health and nutrition to kids exercise. In order to make change you must decide to change your mentality first. Once you realize the implications and how it can affect you or your loved ones, you are usually motivated to follow through with the actions you must take.
Then what? The action parts involve clearing out the pantry, buying healthy foods and eating them consistently each week. Exercise is the next step and those two combined will put a big dent in child obesity.
