Obesity Vaccine That Supposedly Slims You Down While On Junk Food Diet Won’t Work

By Jeff

anti-obesity vaccine for childWe shouldn’t be surprised to hear the news that a pharmaceutical company is developing an “anti-obesity” vaccine which supposedly allows you to eat the same old junk food while still losing weight.

These mad scientists make vaccines, pills and other drugs to be this magical potion to still allow you to eat unhealthy and not have to exercise. What’s next?

Scientists have invented an obesity vaccine that uses the immune system to fight weight gain. In tests, mice given a single injection lost 10 per cent of body weight after four days.

What is more, the animals were being fed on high-fat food – suggesting the ‘flab jab’ might allow people to eat badly yet stay slim. read more

This particular vaccine works by tricking the immune system into creating antibodies against a hormone called somatostatin.

Exercise for Kids at Home Often Overlooked

By Jeff

family at homeParents often associate kids and exercise with activities outside of the home. In the summer, kids go swimming, join a sports team or visit a playground.

During the winter months there’s ice skating, sledding or interactive kids’ museums. But there are also plenty of ways to participate in exercise for kids at home.

What’s great about this is that home indoor exercises can be used year round. Just because it’s raining, you don’t have to sit in front of the television all day. Your kids can be active and stay healthy in the home, come rain or shine.

Why Aren’t Kids Exercise Benefits Talked About More?

By Jeff

benefits buttonI actually had to stop for a minute and ask myself why aren’t kids exercise benefits talked about more? I think I fell into the trap that everyone else did but I’m going to lay it all out for you today.

The trap I speak of is one of assuming all parents know the depth of health rewards a child get’s from physical activity. The benefits to something are actually what we get motivated from.

Here’s an example for me personally. I’m not a big runner at all. If I’ve got to run I prefer short sprints. I do know the health benefits of running longer distance though and that’s why I ran a 5K race.

Leading By Example For Childhood Obesity Awareness

By Jeff

mom and child riding bikesI’ve always believed the best way to help others in the area of kids health is to lead by example. I can’t just sit here behind a computer and wish for the number of people struggling with childhood obesity to go down.

I need to first practice what I preach at home. I need to show my kids what healthy eating is supposed to look like. I need to show my kids what fun fitness is all about.

If I can help raise a healthy family then we can be an influence on our neighbors, town, city and state. Just think if we had a neighborhood full of healthy families!

What One Group Is Doing About Childhood Obesity

The Pennsylvania State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (PSAHPERD) is leading by example and I commend them for this.

Kids Weight Loss Exercise Plans Made For Success

By Jeff

kids weight loss exercise plansKids weight loss exercise plans are necessary for an increasingly growing number of children today.

The incidence of child obesity is rising dramatically and I’m not one to hype up anything unnecessary.

I know people get turned off by all the hype it’s getting and many believe the government and health organizations are blowing it out of proportion.

Here are a few things an overweight child might experience:

Can Too Much Kids Exercise Be Harmful?

By Jeff

tired kid soccerCan too much kids exercise be harmful? This is a legitimate question I’m sure parents want to know. We are very protective of our kids.

We don’t want them to have too little of something and we don’t want them to have too much of something. Moderation right? We can let our kids have birthday cake for Grandma’s birthday but we shouldn’t let them eat it every week.

Is there really a line drawn in the sand though when it comes to kids exercise?

Too Much Kids Exercise Can Be a Turn Off

I really do think there is a point where kids will exercise so much it becomes boring and it totally turns them off. Could be for weeks, months or even years.

Kids Exercise Routines In Place Make Everything Easier

By Jeff

group of kids jumpingAs a real parent, I know how important it is to have a routine and stay on track with anything in life, including kids exercise routines. It has been proven that writing down goals and having a road map to reach those goals actually increases your chances of accomplishing something.

For me, writing down goals or a plan almost guarantees success. For all of my workouts I write down the exact plan of action I’ll take at the gym. I actually like to do it the night before which has helped me tremendously. Otherwise I’m not as affective in my workout.

Benefits of Having Kids Exercise Routines In Place

Having a plan or routine is not only helpful in the sense that it motivates you to complete a task, but it also acts as your own personal accountability partner. You write it down and it’s there staring at you.

Healthy Foods Exercise For Kids

By Jeff

juicer with three cupsI was waiting to write this article about a healthy foods exercise for kids but I can’t wait any longer! This subject has made me so excited!

We all know how tough it can be to get our kids to eat healthy foods. I still feel bad for my parents because of all the trouble I gave them over french cut green beans!

What kid doesn’t though? I especially see kids having a tough time eating healthy foods if there is junk food in the house. Not only that though. If they see mommy and daddy eating chips do you really think they’ll joyously eat salad at dinner?

Beginner Strength Exercises For Kids

By Jeff

pair of light dumbbellsI want to give you some ideas for beginner strength exercises for kids. There is lots of fear from moms especially.

I even had one mother tell me a cute picture I had on my blog of a child holding three pound dumbbells scared her.

I’m a parent too and wouldn’t want my child to drop them on their toe or anything but I also don’t want my child to fear it.

There is quite a bit of research to show strength training is safe and healthy for children. It’s usually recommended kids shouldn’t train with weights until they are seven or eight but I think it depends upon the child. I guarantee you there are three year old’s who can follow directions and lift a two pound weight a few times.
