Kids Need Exercise Because The Benefits Are Massive

kids playing on cloudParents today know their children have a lot of needs. Kids need food and water to stay healthy and grow strong. They need plenty of sleep to recharge after long, busy days. They need positive interaction with friends and family.

But just as important as these things are, kids need exercise. In fact, when kids exercise is practiced regularly, all their other needs fall into place more easily.

Exercise helps kids release built-up energy allowing them to sleep better and have better appetites. Physically, exercise builds strong bones and muscles and also boosts the immune system, helping kids fight off bugs that cause colds and the flu.

While parents should strive to keep their kids active at least 20 minutes a day, there are appropriate times to skip exercise. When kids experience the following symptoms, they should not exercise:

Basically, if they’re experiencing symptoms below the neck – in their chest, lungs or they have an aching body – they need time off to heal.

There are more than just physical benefits to exercise. Kids need exercise because it helps children socialize with their peers, it helps improve grades by keeping kids more focused, and it enhances a child’s confidence in their capabilities.

One in six American children are overweight. Those who fit in this category are more likely to experience depression and self-loathing. Many times, children feel bad about themselves because they eat too much, and, in turn, they eat because they feel bad. It’s an unhealthy cycle that’s especially hard for kids to break.

That is why it’s so important parents teach their children how to be healthy and active. Kids, whether overweight or not, should also be taught self-control and the negative effects of over-indulging.
