Kids Nutrition

The second but equally important component of raising healthy children is kids nutrition. We can all exercise until we’re blue in the face but if we eat unhealthy foods on a regular basis then we will still be unhealthy people prone to having health issues.

I wrote a four part series on roadblocks to a healthy diet for kids in which I list every possible situation your child might face. It could be trips to the grandparents house, school, daycare, other relatives houses, friends homes, community events and parties.

When shopping at the store it’s so important to know how to read food labels because you need to know which ingredients are healthy and not so healthy.

Despite what we think there are no pressure ways to getting kids to eat veggies and there is a no-nag way to make sure there is healthy eating for kids in your house.

Read these articles and start mapping out a plan for your family which involves fresh fruits and veggies along with tasty whole grain foods and low-fat meats if that’s what you prefer.

The key to winning the battle of nutrition for kids is by you modeling healthy eating too. Not just you though. It’s ideal if the whole family ate the same types of foods because if you have another child, you or the dad eating bad then it will be much harder for everyone else to stay consistent.

Tuesday, March 5th, 2013

We all know what foods kids love to eat right? We want our kids to be happy and don’t want to “deprive” them of their desires. At least that’s the way modern parenting would tell us. Don’t get me wrong, when I was a kid I enjoyed many of the items on the list below. [...]

Drinking Water For Kids Is Quite Healthy

Wednesday, June 20th, 2012

We all know we need water to survive, but try convincing a seven-year-old of that fact. Lots of kids don’t like water and would rather have a sugary juice or soda pop. It’s the duty of the parent to ensure their child is getting enough water in their diet. Drinking water is a very important [...]

Roadblocks To a Healthy Diet For Kids – Part III

Friday, May 25th, 2012

Depending on the age of your child, this roadblock to a healthy diet for kids may or may not be an issue. Young children don’t often spend a lot of time playing at a friend’s house. Once they do start spending time with friends, it is usually supervised by an adult and food selections are [...]

Roadblocks To a Healthy Diet For Kids – Part II

Wednesday, May 23rd, 2012

There are so many outside influences for us and our children when it comes to eating. It’s a little easier for adults in my opinion because we totally have knowledge. Knowledge is power. We don’t have to eat out everyday at a restaurant like my former co-workers did at my last and hopefully final 9-5 [...]

How Do You Know If Your Child Is Overweight?

Tuesday, May 15th, 2012

I recently read a forum post from a desperate dad. The title of his entry was, “My Son Is Fat!” Pretty strong language, huh? He was shocked with this realization and needed help. His son was 11 at the time and fairly heavy for his age and height. He wondered out loud how this could [...]
