Benefits of Kids Exercise and ADHD Much Healthier Than Pills

By Jeff

Happy sistersSince a study was conducted by the University of Illinios, Urbana-Champaign a few years ago, researchers have seen evidence that links kids exercise with the reduction of Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD). With two million cases of ADHD in children, exercise may prove to be the cheapest – and most effective – cure for the disorder.

The study tested kids across the country ages 5-18 years old, and with the increase in exercise there was a noticeable decrease in symptoms. Exercise helped some children with ADHD even when previous medication did nothing for them.

Kids with this disorder suffer in school and among their peers. Possible symptoms include depression and substance abuse. The medication kids take for ADHD can leave them mentally numb and “in a fog,” unable to behave as children should.

The results of this study seem like common sense. We all know kids have tons of energy and we all know regular kids exercise should be a life-long habit. Rather than giving kids pills, a much healthier and safer option is to get them to exercise. Just a few minutes a day may be all it takes to improve your child’s grades, attention span and social life.

Reducing Symptoms of ADHD Through Kids Nutrition

Another great way to reduce the symptoms of ADHD is proper nutrition. Many kids start their day with a sugary breakfast (i.e. Pop-tarts, cinnamon rolls, sugar cereals, etc.).On top of that, several desserts, juices and sodas are consumed throughout the day. With constant sugar highs and no way to release the energy, it’s easy to see how kids can be diagnosed with ADHD.

Be sure to limit the amount of sugar your kids eat each day. If you know they’ll have a dessert after lunch, give them toast and eggs for breakfast. And when they come home from school, make sure they spend a little time exercising instead of sitting on the couch the rest of the day. A little effort goes a long way to keep your kids healthy.

Exercise is tremendously helpful, but by no means a “cure” for ADHD. And any child who is “mentally numb and in a fog” due to medicine clearly does not have proper medication monitoring.

Nice try Dr. Michelle Matusoff! Ritalin, Concerta, Prozac and Adderall drugs are useless. Prof. William Pelham found them to actually stunt a child’s growth. They are dangerous and addictive.

Diagnose and drug more people is the name of the game right? Wrong!

Healthy eating and exercise is a much safer solution than drugging our children.
